The basic purpose of this committee is to support and promote the
ELCA social ministry organizations and partners, as well as local
community service ministry projects.
The purpose of the
committee will be carried out in the following ways:
How Are We at Grace Involved? We conduct quarterly food drives for the Iowa County Food Pantry (located at the CAP office downtown) and the Iowa County Social Services. We collect used coats and clothing for Winter Wear for Folks/We Care service, which is also available for clients at the CAP (Community Action Program) office downtown. We have many volunteers from Grace who work at the Food Pantry and the Winter Wear/We Care programs on a regular basis. We offer coffee and chocolate for sale at the church through Lutheran World Relief's Fair Trade Coffee and Fair Trade Chocolate projects, which directly benefit the farmers in Africa, Asia and Latin America who grow the products. In the fall, we sponsor an annual Red Cross Blood Drive, to help them collect units for local and regional hospitals. At Christmas, we work with the Iowa County Social Services on a "Giving Tree" to provide gifts for families in our community who would otherwise have very little. In March, 2010, we worked with Hidden Valley and other churches and businesses in the area on the Feed My Starving Children program, a food packing event providing nutritious meals for hungry children in other parts of the world. A number of Grace members participated last year, and even more this year. If any of these sound interesting to you, come and join us. We are always looking for new members!
